artist statement:
I am a carver of abstract geometries for whom the intimations
of the landscape and nature's essential structures are always a necessary grounding in my search for form.
My work combines a sense of growth, movement and rhythm
within its structure. There is a lightness of touch despite the literal weight of the materials.
I draw and cross hatch with chisels the linear contours
and textures of the landscape. The surface of the work suggesting the very depth of the geology that lies beneath it.
I enjoy the fact that the stone being so rigid and solid
can be used to create such forms that look visually very malleable and sensual.
These references to the organic world and nature help
me express my ideas about the expansion and lucidity of ones thoughts, memories and dreams.
